This small evergreen tree grows slowly to an eventual height of 10’ with a width of perhaps 5’. It bears horizontal branches with flat sprays of green interior with golden yellow branch tips. The foliage seems to fountain from the main stem, coming out very dense and well-branched.
It features soft, lemon–yellow foliage that has an airy, featherlike appearance of a fern frond.
Hinoki cypress really stand outs in the winter against the dark tones of evergreens or the bare limbs of deciduous trees. For best growth plant it in well-drained soil and mulch heavily in order to keep the roots moist and cool. Avoid planting in full direct sun as the foliage my burn.
Prefers partial sun/shade
