Calibrachoa x hybrida ‘Sunshine State Improved’ is a vibrant, mounding-trailing annual with bright golden-yellow, petunia-like flowers that bloom profusely throughout the growing season. The “Improved” selection offers enhanced flower coverage, stronger growth, and better weather tolerance compared to earlier versions.

Description:

  • Dimensions: 6–12 in tall and spreads 12–24 in

  • Sun Exposure: Full sun to part sun

  • Water Requirements: Well-drained soil; moderate watering (avoid soggy conditions)

  • Hardiness Zones: Grown as an annual in most regions; perennial in Zones 9–11

  • Bloom Time: Spring through fall (continuous bloom)

  • Pruning: Trim back lightly midseason if plants become leggy to encourage bushier growth and more blooms

How to Plant:

  • Location: Best for hanging baskets, containers, window boxes, or the front of garden beds

  • Soil Preparation: Use well-draining potting mix enriched with slow-release fertilizer; amend heavy soils in beds

  • Planting: Space 12–18 in apart in containers or ground

  • Watering: Keep soil evenly moist; water more frequently in containers during hot weather, allowing the top inch to dry slightly between waterings

Fun Fact:
Calibrachoa are often called “Million Bells” because of their abundant blooms that can cover an entire plant — attracting bees, butterflies, and hummingbirds all season long!
